Surgery Day for the Baby

What a day. I really hated today. 1st we were up till 2am making sure everything was ready for our oldest daughter's 1/2 birthday at school. Luckily we got to sleep in till 5am to get everyone up and ready for the youngest daughters surgery. On top of it all I'm not a great morning person nor is my wife, it was fun to say the least, but we are awesome and job completed.

We drop off our oldest at the In-laws and its off to Children's Hospital for us, luckily my mother in law lent us a GPS device. It was a time and life saver. Its just so convenient. We get there with out a hitch.

What a place, love it, just great really went the extra step to be kid friendly. We all had fun there until it was time for her to go back, as it is a quick little surgery we were not present and had to wait in the waiting area.

When she came back the docs said everything was cool and we were set. She was a bit grumpy, but once she was with us it was all good. I have a great baby and now hopefully she will sleep through the night. Side note she is sitting here playing and has been very content for the last 2 hours. What a doll. I was so glad because my wife was a nervous wreck, and I was fine as could be expected. When your kid goes under even for the most routine, it makes you think "Oh lord don't let anything happen to her, she is too perfect and fragile. I don't know how I could handle it.", then she comes back fine and you are thinking, "Thank you, and your heart warms....knowing that she will be better then before." Awe.

Once we pick up the oldest and get home we notice that there is some blood in both ears. That freaked my wife out and it should. I figured it was normal excess drainage, but seeing her get worked up I began to think maybe she is right, so back in the van and we head back up to Children's Hospital witch is a little over 20 minutes away. She talks me into stopping at a local hospital, that I just don't like. We check in all the while she is trying to get a hold of Children's Hospital or the surgeons office, both problems. The Hospital numbers nobody is answering and the surgeons office can't get a hold of them either, so they tell us we should head up to Children's as there is nothing much they can do here.

Once again we are off on the road, but this time we don't have the GPS and the road the exit I need is closed to construction and I proceed to get lost as I'm not familiar with this area. After running around the hard rain starts and it's hard to see. We finally get hold of someone that can get us there.

Again very nice hospital, but why do they make you repeat the same answers and story to 5 different people? Made me want to check and see if they are even writing this down. Upon being checked we find it is normal and we are free to go, with our day shot and all we can think about is sleep. Get a little BK Lounge on the way home and after we eat its off to bed for everyone the wife.

So I thought I would just post an update for the readers and say damn I'm tired, so I created a new title image. Let me know what you think.

Back to Cash Games

Haven't played cash games much lately, been mostly grinding low stake tournaments. The biggest problem with them is that they take forever and when they are low stakes its great to take 2nd in a $1 rebuy, but to get a little over $150 for 4- 6 hours of play isn't that cool. Yes if you put in a total of $3 its a 50x return on your investment, but it's almost not worth the time put in. Say its 5 hours thats $50 an hour which is great, but then you have to figure in your loss of sleep which directly effects your next day. All in all is sucks until you move up a few levels.

So that made me decide to give cash games another go along with subscribing to Cardrunners. Cardrunners has help me tremendously, and have been doing great at the micro stakes of 25NL. I am about 1/2 way to 50NL, as long as I don't donk too much on tournaments. I will still try to play some especially the blogger series. Not to mention that ring games just are so much easier to fit into the ole family life.

I have made more of an effort to play very focused when I play which has helped. The biggest thing that has helped aside from the teaching sites, is that I have cut back to 2 or three days of playing so that it does not interfere with the family. With cash games if I can fit in a session no matter how long I can.

Been lack of updates due to death of Father in law, daughters field trips and other daughters surgery tomorrow. Hopefully be back on track next week or end of this week. I also will try to get to play some satellites to the Heartland Poker Tour that is coming to Greektown Casino in Detroit.

Another 2nd in the $1 Rebuy

57 Vette was going to come over and we were going to do our Friday night poker, but he had a rough day at work and had a baseball game today so he canceled. I was already registered in the $1 rebuy and a couple other tournaments, so I decided to play a little.

I didn't get much of anything going in any of the other tournaments, so I decided to just focus on the rebuy and watch some videos from Cardrunners.

Early on I win a few pots and hover around 6k - 7k before finally getting involved in a three way all in with AK and out flopping two players, that got me up to around 24k.

01 Leader in 1 rebuy

My goal in these rebuys is to get to at least 20k by the first break, its always nice when you can do it almost out of the gate. Now I have to avoid giving all of these back. A good way to do that is to hit sets.

02 set up to 50k

Called a standard raise preflop, then it went bet - raise - shove (by me) - call - call. Normally I would just shove it out there, but in these rebuys people call with anything. That got me around 50k.

03 leaderboard 1 rebuy

We got to the break and I still added on, I forgot where I read an article about add ons were it showed the math that if you don't take the add on you actually lose equity. I make it a habit to always do it. Here is the chips at first break.

04 1 rebuy 1st break

Only one hand of interest in the next level where I flop a set on a three club board with a raise preflop. He put out the continuation and I shoved. With as fast as he called I thought I need the board to pair but he was drawing dead.

05 set on 3 flush baord for big pot

Here is the chip count at the second break:

06 2nd break Leader

I start thinking wouldn't it be neat to go wire to wire (have the chip lead at all breaks and win the tournament) just something to brag about.

This next hand 88 raised then KQ shoved, and with how he has been playing I think I'm ahead, so I reshove to isolate and original raiser calls with 88 and I proceed to flop a 2 out boat for the 32k pot.

06 2 outer for 32k

I limp in after an UTG limper with 10s 9s and hit a pair with a flush draw. He check - calls my raise on the flop, on the turn he bet - calls my shove and I find out I really don't want a spade to fall.

07 pair flush draw vs nut flush draw

We get to the 3rd break and my hopes of going wire to wire are smashed as the player wins huge pot just before break to pass me.

08 2nd at 3rd break, last hand passed

A bit after we are back I make a standard raise with Ac Qc only to have the button shove on me, I think about it and decide to call for two reasons, 1. I don't want people to get in the habit of re-stealing from me and 2. From watching this player I think he is capable of making a move here. Good Call.

09 AcQc vs A 0 off

Next I have 88 and make a standard raise and get shoved on, but I know this player isn't making a total move. He has also caused me fits at the last table we were at, so I didn't want to give him chips, but wanted him gone. Most of his moves were high pressure moves, so I decided that this is a good shot at making this table a lot easier.

10 88 vs AcQc

This hand I make a late position raise and get committed to calling a shorter stacks reshove. I have two live cards and hit one. Poker is easy.

11 racing

In one of the only big blind battles in this tournament I raise from the sb and the bb calls. I have Jc 9d vs 8d 3s, the flop is 8c Jh 6d. It goes check - check. Turn is 6h, I bet he calls. River is a 4d and I check incase he has a 6 and he shoves, I take a minute and decided that this player has not been shoving for value at all that I have seen, and I call with what I think is the best hand and is.

12 Battle of the Blinds

We come up to the 4th break and I'm still near the top, checking in at number 2.

13 2nd at 4th break

Nothing much happens to me until we get to the final table.

14 Final Table

Here are the chip counts:

15 Final Table 2

Here is the first big hand that I got involved in:

16 Big ahnd

I call a small raise from UTG and bet out on the flop and pick up 115k very easily.

In the next orbit or two I make a standard raise with AK and call a reshove from the button and my AK vs QJ and it holds for just shy of a 600k pot. This gets my chip stack more then comfortable and also gets us to 3 handed.

17 Huge Hand

To get heads up I shove a marginal hand into the small stack BB and he calls with 66 and I out flop him. So we get heads up and I'm up against a complete rock and winning 70% of the pots, unless he shows aggression.

Here is the second time I have misplayed AA in a tournament for a huge pot, last time was last weeks MATH. I just call a standard raise preflop and check shove on the flop and run into the second nuts. nice.

19 Played AA bad

I pick off one of his very rare bluffs on the river by calling off my stack with third pair for 625k.

20 bigger hand

Here is the last hand, I wonder how I played it:

Death Makes You Love Life

Haven't been able to post for a while, been dealing with my family. We lost my father in law on April 25th. Its been really rough emotionally around the house, we will get through it but it does really weight on you, especially my wife and our daughter.

We had our monthly tournament and had a really small turn out, I was down up down up out with my chip stack. Made a great bluff in to a player I can't bluff, against most players they would lay it down. I didn't adjust to the live players, as I play online so much now a days.

Anyway's I ran another bluff into the nuts against Vette and later that night we talked about the hand and we both think it was the right play, because only the nuts could call. I don't remember the exact cards but hopefully if Vette does he can post the hand. Then I ran the nut straight into the nut flush. Left with a few chips I got it all in with QQ vs A4 vs K 10 with a A on the flop and a K on the turn and I was gone. Really bad run and didn't have my mind clear.

I did get to play in the MATH but played AA really bad against J Goat, then did something else boneheaded, but can't remember and I was the fist exit. I missed the Skillz tonight by a few minutes.

Today was the first day of the new semester and I forgot how much I really wish I was done with school. Sucks that I have to take like 3 or 4 semesters of just electives classes, because since I got here I just took core classes and no electives.

I'm reading Gus Hansen's new book and I love it, very interesting. Really got me to think about a few things differently. I have been really trying to be very thoughtful in my play and just by reading a fifth of the book I have a couple of things to think about. I have made some slight changes to my game and I have see a difference already.

I have also been reading a Omaha 8B book and playing the ring games. Currently I am a break even player, which is good since I just started trying to learn the game. I really enjoy it, but man is it different. Will try to keep updating regularly now.

Saturday April 26th 2008...

Starting things off tonight will be a quick update about the home front. Jaxson hits 6 months old on the 22nd of this month, this kid is also getting big really fast. He also cut his first tooth this week, he is handling it well. Life is good around here.

Next up is the Detroit Lions drafting this year, I was surprised with there first pick but can't complain hopeing he was a big part of Matt Ryan's sucess at B.C. They second pick the LB out of Colorado should be good enough to start so that is excellent news. Lets just pray Matt Millin continues to use this draft as a real turn around for the Lions Legacy. But what about Bill Parcells renaming the team to the Miami Wolverines as he picks up Chad Henne to go along with the beast Jake Long. Nice play Mr. Parcells, nice play...

Go Red Wings, taking a two game lead in this best of seven series with the Avalanche. Winning 5 -1 in a high powered good offensive game today. Osgood should start every game from here on out. He is the better so far in these playoffs. I hope we have to go through Dallas to get the finals against the Canadians. I have put some thought into this and at first wanted to see the Penguins for the fact that Crosby being what the NHL wants him to be for the future of the game. True he is not the only one but seems to be the main one. But that being said - I think the Canadians would be the cooler off the teams to play against. And i think the Wings could win that series and the Cup.

Tigers are hitting their stride going into May and this summer should be exciting to say the least. Like my partner in crime said, just get that starting pitching turned around and things will be o.k. For the record Jim Leyland is still my Tiger, but i have for sho jumped on the Caberra bandwagon. He is going to great in Detroit.

Poker has been ruff lately and i'm not convinced that i'm that good anymore. Maybe it's just a rough spell and I'll pull through but my confidence will keep me from going back down to the casino's for awhile. Plus my bankroll needs some beefing up first, mainly because i took my winnings and paid off some bills so ... We will see what happens.

On the media : I have found that Rob & Big is a great show and it sucks that they are not doing another year of that. And LOST is back and continues to impress the hell out of me. This is by far my favorite show on the boob tube, and in at a close 2nd - The Office. excellent programming.

Thats all for now people - Keep on keeping on!

Restoring the Roar

How about those Tigers?  After their slow start it finally looks like this potent offense has found their bats and is staring to produce.  Despite the loss tonight they are 10-8 after their miserable 0-6 start.  Starting pitching is going to be the key to the rest of the season.  If Verlander and Bonderman can hit their stride i think the Tigers will have a great shot at not just winning the Central but being a serious World Series contender.  The irony to this point is that our bullpen has been pretty solid and that was supposed to be our undoing.  Obviously there is still a ton of baseball to be played and once our starters get back on track the Tigers are going to be among the elite in the American League once again.

It's Been a While

I'm back readers.  Its been a bit since I've made a post but I've been busy with work and had some problems with the computer.  Anyway, i thought I'd talk a bit about the upcoming draft and what the Lions may or may not do with the 15th overall pick.  First off, gotta give props to my man Jake Long for being the top overall pick in the draft.  The upside...a 5 year, $57.75M contract.  The downside...its with the Miami Dolphins.  Hopefully he'll go on to have a long successful career.  Who knows, maybe he'll even get a ring.  Back to the Lions....so many options.  Their needs are so many i think they're in the right spot picking 15th.  I've heard alot of names thrown around as far as what the Lions are gonna do.  Lately its been Jared Mayo (LB, Tennessee).  This wouldn't be a bad pick assuming some other guys are off the board but as far as LB go, he's probably the 3rd or 4th best in the draft.  I would like to see them get Keith Rivers from USC if he's still available.  He's far more athletic and much stronger than Mayo.  Another name thats been mentioned is Rashard Mendenhall (RB, Illinois).  I think 15 is a little bit high for this pick.  Granted, the Lions need a RB, seeing as how Tatum Bell is the starter right now.  Running back is such a deep position this year that they could probably hold out until the 2nd or 3rd round and pick up a solid guy no problem.  Plus, lets not forget that Shaun Alexander is out there now and even though he hasn't produced in the last 2 years like he did in  his MVP year he could be a good pickup if they get him a value price.  Whatever route they go, I'd like to see them stay on the defensive side of the ball seeing as how they had the 32nd ranked defense last season.  If worse comes to worse, the could always use Roy Williams to trade up or down and get another pick to fill their many needs.  Unfortunately, Matt Millen is the GM which means Detroit will probably be welcoming a WR to mini camp this year.

I Almost Busted Jean Robert Bellande on Bodog

I almost busted Jean Robert Bellande in the BoDonkey, but he folded. That sucked because he has a $100 bounty on him even in this $10 blogger tournament.

Man those tournament $$ go fast, but if you do it right the real $$$ amount goes up nicely.

Worked my chip stack up and down, seems the Bodog structure has been giving me diffucltly. I just can't seem to get the fel for it, it seems that I am too used to Full Tilt Poker structure.

Well Mondogarage was the big stack at our table and I reshoved his button raise with 77 and he called with 10 10 and we both hit boats and I'm out 27th. I really want to do good in this series as I love the sturcture, but can't seem to get going. I keep comming close to have a big stack or cashing, but come up short. I will keep at it tho.

Played in a $5 rebuy satty to a $200 tournament, top 3 pay with 1st and 2nd geting the big $$ and 3rd getiting $18. I play really aggresive once we get to 4 handed and flucturate between 2nd in chips and 3rd, as the blinds were so high every hand was a shove. I was running over the table but losing the all ins vs the guy I needed to bust. I finally shoved on button with Ah4h for 21k with blinds of 3k/6k and got called by the chip leader 66 with 50k and the guy I need to bust for his 24k 88. I pair the four and took my $18 to the corner to cry. All that work and if I would have just folded that one hand, I would have won 180 more. I know its the right move, but damn.

In the skillz I had a great little run where I got a hold of a lot of chips fast, even thought pot limit is quite different.

I finally got a KO in the skillz too, and they came fast.

04 Final Table

I got picked as Riggstard 2nd horse at the final table.

Hoy absolutley abused my BB, and I knew it...just couldn't wake up with a decent hand to defend with.

Still in but really short on chips, and 1st hand back from break when this hand happened:

06 1st hand back

That was just a cooler. Well not bad for sucking a Pot Limit.

Donkeypuncher went on to win it, congrats.

How I Donked in the Math

I had a really busy day today, worked 8 hours came home to a house full of kids. My wife is now babysitting 3 kids on Monday, and 2 kids 3 or 4 days a week. So the home front is quite active to say the least when I get home.

I played a $8.80 Rebuy satty to the 30k and won a seat, so I took the $109 in tournament $$ with a smile.

Here's a pic:

01 30k Satty Win

Since they all went to bed early, I entered the 6k guarantee which is a $3.30 rebuy. I had a big stack, but had to put all my tournaments on hold when my daughter woke up. I had to tend to her, but once I got back I got to play a for a while then this happens:

03 Exit from 6k Rebuy

I called a little raise and we got it all in on the flop for a huge pot and got crushed on the turn.

I played in the MATH tonight and really was exited to play. I was chipping up nicely until I made a horrible call that I talked myself in to doing with 22 to AA and well you know what happens:

02 Donk into Chips

I made one play that I was really proud of against Cmitch:

Full Tilt Poker Game #6129103448: Mondays at the Hoy (45101299), Table 11 - 150/300 Ante 25 - No Limit Hold'em - 23:56:11 ET - 2008/04/21

Breeze81 checks (try to induce one more bluff)

cmitch has 15 seconds left to act

cmitch bets 2,400

Breeze81 calls 2,400 (His bet doesn't convince me, so I call planning on betting no matter what comes on the river)

Breeze81 bets 4,275 (try to make it like a value bet, because there is a lot to fear on this board)

Uncalled bet of 4,275 returned to Breeze81

This was really bad, but then I do the same thing later and give Cmitch all those chips back.

06 even worse move

Also went deep in the $1 rebuy, but finished 65th.

Was a good night just wish I didn't fall apart in the MATH.
